LMBPF Round 4: Barreteras lose to Mustangs- March 9, 2020
It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in LMBPF, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.
Barreteras - Mustangs 68-70 Barreteras (3-1) recorded its first loss in Zacatecas on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by ninth ranked Mustangs (1-3) 70-68. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Barreteras. Anel Tapia fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Siria Reyes chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Mustangs players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Alexis Castro (180-86, college: Vermont) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her seven free throws) and the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-93) added 6 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Mustangs left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Mexcaltecas. Barreteras at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Mustangs is looking forward to face Gladiadoras (#9) in San Luis Potos in the next round. Barreteras will play on the road against Marineras (#4) in Puerto Vallarta and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Gladiadoras is still unable to win any game. Quetzales forced 26 Gladiadoras turnovers and outrebounded them 56-36 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Izchel Valdez who helped to win the game recording 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and American forward Emi Guimond (188-86, college: Albion) who added 20 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Quetzales' coach G Sanchez felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Karla Rodriguez (170-78) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Nidia Briones scored 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Quetzales have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Newly promoted Gladiadoras still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Reales. Quetzales will meet Mieleras (#5) in the next round. Gladiadoras will play against Mustangs (#8) in Saltillo and hope to get finally their first victory. Marineras held Mexcaltecas to an opponent 23.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.3 percent accuracy of the winners. The winners were led by American point guard Shauqunna Collins (163-94, college: Fresno St.) who scored that evening 24 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import center Ivory Russell (191-90, college: Jarvis Christian) supported her with 8 points and 18 rebounds. Russell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds by Guatemalan Linda Gonzalez (178-92) did not help to save the game for Mexcaltecas. American guard Melinda Murillo (165, college: Cent.Oklahoma) added 12 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Marineras moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Mexcaltecas at the other side keep the seventh position with three games lost. Marineras' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Barreteras in Zacatecas and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mexcaltecas will play on the road against Escaramuzas (#3) in Guadalajara and hope to win that game. Visiting Mieleras were defeated by Lobas in a tough game in Ciudad de Mexico 73-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mieleras. Lobas had a 37-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Hazel Ramirez (165-92, college: Loyola Mary) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 rebounds. Maria Faz contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Jazmin Valenzuela (187-89) replied with 17 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Simone Westbrook (173, college: Clemson) added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Mieleras. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Lobas maintains sixth position with 2-2 record. Defending champion Mieleras keep the second place with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Lobas will play against bottom-ranked Reales (#10) in Fresnillo in the next round. Mieleras will play at home against the league's leader Quetzales (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Reales' 38. Escaramuzas forced 22 Reales turnovers. The winners were led by Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-84) who scored that evening 16 points and 7 rebounds and international forward Gladiana Avila (177-94) supported her with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Escaramuzas players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Kenyotta Jenkins (178-91, college: Ole Miss) did not help to save the game for Reales. Claudia Ortiz added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Escaramuzas moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Reales still closes the standings with four games lost. Escaramuzas' next round opponent will be Mexcaltecas (#7) in Tepic where they are favorite. Reales will play at home against Lobas and look forward to get finally their first victory.
