We bring you last week's top performances from Mexicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international guard
Alexander Perez Kaufmann (191-93, agency:
Pro Sports, currently plays in Turkey). He contributed to
Fenerbahce's victory against the league outsider Fethiye (4-14)
93-86 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game.
Perez Kaufmann recorded 8 points and added 7 assists in 23 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Fenerbahce this season.
His team is placed first in the BSL.
So far his team won all eighteen games in the Regular Season.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Ex-Soles de Mexicali player is currently a member of the Mexican senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international shooting guard
Francisco Cruz (191-89, college:
Wyoming, currently plays in Turkey). Cruz led
Afyon Bld to a 2-point victory against the closely-ranked Tofas (10-8)
85-83 in the Turkish BSL last Sunday.
He recorded 16 points.
HDI Sigorta Afyon Belediyespor (10-8) is placed sixth in the BSL.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Cruz has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 20.8ppg, 3.4rpg, 5.3apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 55.3%(68-123), 3FGP: 43.3% and FT: 74.4%.
Ex-Fuerza Guinda Nogales player is in the roster of the Mexican senior national team.
#3. The Mexican player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international guard
Jorge Gutierrez (191-88, college:
California, currently plays in Greece). Gutierrez could not help
Peristeri GS (7-5) to beat Kolossos HH (5-7).
He scored 8 points and added 3 passes in 20 minutes. It was his first game for Peristeri GS this season.
Peristeri GS lost
65-80 on the road to the lower-ranked (#8) Kolossos HH.
Ex-Pioneros de Quintana Roo-Cancun player is also a member of the Mexican senior national team.
#4. Point guard
Paul Stoll (180-85, currently plays in France) contributed to
Levallois' victory against one of league's weakest teams Chalons-Reims (1-8)
87-73 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA in Saturday night's game.
Stoll recorded 8 points. It was his first game for Levallois this season.
His team is placed second in the Jeep ELITE ProA.
Stoll is a naturalized American.
He is also Mexican national team player.
Stoll used to play for Algodoneros de La Comarca - Torreon in Mexican league.
#5. Former international swingman
Jaime Jaquez Jr. (198-1, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the
UCLA (8-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance the UCLA were edged
73-72 at home by the Stanford University.
Jaquez Jr. scored 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 38 minutes.
Jaquez Jr. has relatively good stats this year: 12.9ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in 15 games he played so far.
He used to play for the Mexican national team
two years ago.
#6. Forward
Juan Toscano-Anderson (198-93, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
Marquette, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the
Golden State Warriors (10-9) in their game against the Utah Jazz (14-4) in the NBA. Toscano-Anderson did not beat the league record on Saturday evening.
He scored only 3 points.
The Golden State Warriors (10-9) were badly defeated
127-108 in Salt Lake City by the Utah Jazz.
Toscano-Anderson's overall stats this season are: 3.1ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.7apg.
He is a naturalized American.
Toscano-Anderson is an international player who is currently on the senior Mexican National Team roster.
He used to play for Fuerza Regia Monterrey in Mexican league.
#7. International guard
Diego Willis (193-99, currently studies in the States) managed to help New Jersey Institute of Technology to win against the Stony Brook University (5-3)
74-65 in the NCAA last Saturday.
Willis scored 5 points.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology has 4-6 conference record this season.
Willis' overall stats this year are: 6.3ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.1apg.
He is also Mexican national team player.
#8. Small forward
Yahir Bonilla (204-3, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a
FC Barcelona 2's victory against the seventh-ranked Benicarlo (6-8)
67-57 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night.
Bonilla scored only 3 points in 5 minutes on the court.
FC Barcelona Lassa 2nd team (13-2) is placed first in East group.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
This year Bonilla's overall stats are: 1.9ppg and 1.1rpg in seven games.
He plays currently for the Mexican national team.
#9. Former University international forward
Mauricio Cheda (198-90, college:
UTEP, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help
JAC Sants (0-3) in their game against Martinenc (2-2) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Cheda was the second best scorer with 12 points.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Cheda's total stats this year are: 9.3ppg and 4.7rpg.
He used to play for the Mexican university national team
eight years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Mexican passport: #1. Ian Hohenstein (201-F, currently plays in NCAA2) could not help the
Western New Mexico University in their last game. Despite Hohenstein's good performance his team lost
65-74 on the road to the Northwest Nazarene University.
He scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes. It was his first game for Western New Mexico University this season.
