LBE Round 2: Centauros lose to Toros- March 22, 2021
There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Dorados - Soles 100-95 Dorados defeated Soles at home 100-95. Soles will play next round against strong Centauros trying to get back on the winning streak. Dorados will try to continue on its current victory against Ciudad at Ciudad Juarez. Indios - NCG Potros 112-116 We should not miss the game where NCG Potros against Ciudad where NCG Potros won on the road by four points 116-112. NCG Potros' next round opponent will be Toros in Nuevo Laredo and it may be quite challenging game. Ciudad will play against Dorados and hope to win that game. Toros - Centauros 101-92 The biggest surprise of round 2 in LBE took place in Nuevo Laredo where host Toros beat Centauros 101-92 on Friday evening. Toros made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Centauros turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Centauros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international Omar De Haro (188-95) who scored 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Forward Raul Olalde (196-96) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. The former international Gabriel Giron (192-88) produced 18 points and 6 rebounds and international center Joshua Ibarra (211-95, college: HBU) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Centauros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Centauros will play next round against strong Soles trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Toros will try to continue on its current victory against NCG Potros at home. Soles played at the court of NCG Potros. Soles defeated NCG Potros 119-103 on Saturday. Soles dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to NCG Potros' 54 and made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Soles forced 19 NCG Potros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by NCG Potros' players. The best player for the winners was American guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The other American import forward Trent Steen (203-96, college: UAPB, agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) produced 37 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and the former international forward Joaquin Villanueva (208-86) added 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Five Soles and four NCG Potros players scored in double figures. Soles will face Centauros in Chihuahua in the next round and it may be the game of the week. NCG Potros will play on the road against Toros in Nuevo Laredo and hope to win that game. Hosts were rolled over by Dorados 100-81. Dorados dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Centauros' 38 and made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Dorados had a 42-31 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St.) had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 22 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Raul Delgado (190-91, college: MSU Denver) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international Gabriel Giron (192-88) responded with 20 points and 8 rebounds and international guard Victor Alvarez Diez (180-96, agency: Pro Sports) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dorados will meet Ciudad in the next round where they are favorite. Centauros will play against Soles in Ojinaga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
