LBE Round 4: Dorados lose their first game against Soles

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Dorados (9-1) in Ojinaga on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Soles (6-4) 90-86. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Dorados. Soles forced 19 Dorados turnovers. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 assists and center Jarred Shaw (208-90, college: Utah St., agency: Players Group) who added 16 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side center Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Dorados' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Soles moved-up to third place, which they share with Toros. Dorados at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Soles is looking forward to face Toros (#4) in Nuevo Laredo in the next round. Dorados will play against NCG Potros and are hoping to win this game.

The winners were led by Puerto Rican Gilberto Clavell (200-89, college: SHSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and Durrell Summers supported him with 26 points. Even 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his eight free throws) by international Omar De Haro (188-95) did not help to save the game for Toros. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Dorados have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record. Toros at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Soles. Dorados will play against bottom-ranked NCG Potros (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Toros will play against Soles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Chihuahua between Toros and Centauros. Fourth ranked Toros (6-4) got a very close victory on the road over much higher ranked Centauros (7-3). Toros managed to escape with a 1-point win 99-98 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Centauros. Cristian Cortez fired 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Joshua Ibarra produced a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for lost side. Centauros' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros moved-up to third place, which they share with Soles. Loser Centauros keep the second position with three games lost. Toros will meet at home Soles (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Centauros will play against Ciudad in Ciudad Juarez and hope to secure a win.
Ciudad has registered their first victory this season after nine consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in , where they defeated NCG Potros (1-9) 111-96. It was a very good performance for Gabe McCray who helped to win the game recording 41 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Ciudad's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Ciudad left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with defeated NCG Potros. It was NCG Potros' fourth loss in a row. Ciudad's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Centauros in Chihuahua and it may be quite challenging game. NCG Potros will play against the league's leader Dorados (#1) and hope to win that game.
The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Centauros (7-3) played at the court of 5th ranked NCG Potros (1-9). Centauros smashed NCG Potros 108-84 on Thursday. Worth to mention a great performance of Cezar Vasquez who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Centauros' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Centauros have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-3 record having just two points less than leader Dorados. NCG Potros lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom place with nine games lost. Centauros will face Ciudad (#5) in Ciudad Juarez in the next round. NCG Potros will play against the league's leader Dorados and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 4 Soles won against Indios on the opponent's court 110-94.



Dorados - Toros 104-102

Important game to mention about took place in . First ranked Dorados (9-1) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 4th ranked Toros (6-4) 104-102 on Wednesday evening. Dorados made 26-of-30 charity shots (86.7 percent) during the game. Dorados outrebounded Toros 49-36 including 37 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Toros were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Puerto Rican Gilberto Clavell (200-89, college: SHSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and American Durrell Summers (196-89, college: Michigan St.) supported him with 26 points. The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Centauros (7-3) played at the court of 5th ranked NCG Potros (1-9). Centauros smashed NCG Potros 108-84 on Thursday. Centauros dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to NCG Potros' 32. They outrebounded NCG Potros 47-35 including 36 on the defensive glass. Centauros looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by NCG Potros' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Cezar Vasquez who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Gabriel Giron (192-88) who added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Centauros' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Tristan Spurlock (203-91, college: UCF) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) scored 24 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Centauros have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-3 record having just two points less than leader Dorados. NCG Potros lost fourth consecutive game. Rather expected game in Ciudad Juarez where 6th ranked Ciudad (1-9) was defeated by fourth ranked Soles (6-4) 110-94 on Friday. Soles made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jarred Shaw (208-90, college: Utah St., agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) who added 23 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Ricardo Calatayud (183-92) responded with 29 points and 6 assists and American guard Jerome Seagears (185-92, college: UNLV) scored 17 points. Five Soles and four Ciudad players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Soles moved-up to third place, which they share with Toros. Ciudad lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Soles will face Toros (#4) in Nuevo Laredo in the next round. Toros shot 30 for 42 from the free-throw line, while Centauros only scored twelve points from the stripe. Forward Raul Olalde (196-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Five Toros players scored in double figures.
