Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mexican players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international point guard
Alexander Perez-Kaufmann (191-93, currently plays in EuroCup). He led his Turkish team
Turk Telekom to a 3-point victory against the closely-ranked Lokomotiv (4-1)
88-85 in the Eurocup in Tuesday night's game.
Perez-Kaufmann had a double-double by scoring 11 points and making the same number of passes. He also added 4 rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Turk Telekom Ankara (3-2) is placed fourth in the Eurocup.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year Perez-Kaufmann averages: 8.6ppg, 2.2rpg, 7.4apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 44.4%, 3FGP: 36.8% and FT: 75.0% in five games he played so far.
Ex-Soles de Mexicali player is currently a member of the Mexican senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international shooting guard
Francisco Cruz (191-89, college:
Wyoming, currently plays in Turkey). He could not help
Tofas (3-2) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Cruz's good performance Tofas was badly defeated
89-70 at home by the lower-ranked Gaziantep (#5).
He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Cruz also added 3 passes.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
It's Cruz's first season with the team.
Cruz has relatively good stats this year: 11.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 4.5apg, 2FGP: 48.3%, 3FGP: 42.6% and FT: 63.6%.
Ex-Fuerza Guinda Nogales player is in the roster of the Mexican senior national team.
#3. The Mexican player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international swingman
Jaime Jaquez Jr. (198-1, currently plays college basketball in the States). He led
UCLA to a victory against the Villanova University
86-77 in the NCAA on Friday night.
Jaquez Jr. had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 37 minutes.
The University of California at Los Angeles have 5-0 overall record this season.
Jaquez Jr. has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.0apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 59.5%(25-42) in four games.
Jaquez Jr. played for the Mexican national team two years ago.
#4. Forward
Juan Toscano-Anderson (198-93, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
Marquette, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers (9-8)
104-89 in the NBA in Thursday night's game.
He recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Golden State Warriors have a very solid 13-2 record this season.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Toscano-Anderson's overall stats this year are: 4.0ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.4apg.
He is a naturalized American.
Toscano-Anderson is also Mexican national team player.
He used to play for Fuerza Regia Monterrey in Mexican league.
#5. Former U17 international forward
Leonardo De Coninck (196-0, currently plays in Canada) managed to help McGill University in a victory against the Stingers
77-62 in a derby game in the U Sports in Thursday night's game.
De Coninck scored only 3 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 11 minutes.
The McGill University has 2-0 record this season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year De Coninck's overall stats are: 1.5ppg and 3.0rpg in two games.
He used to play for the Mexican U17 national team
four years ago.
#6. Point guard
Jared Perez (183-0, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the
Northern New Mexico College in their game against the The University of Texas at El Paso in the AII. Perez cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones.
He scored only 3 points.
His team was crushed
88-53 on the road by the The University of Texas at.
Perez's total stats this season are: 1.5ppg and 3.0rpg.
He is a former U17 international player as he played for the Mexican team four years ago.
