Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mexican players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international shooting guard
Francisco Cruz (191-89, college:
Wyoming, currently plays in Turkey). He led
Tofas to a 2-point victory over the 14th-ranked Yalova (2-7)
79-77 in the Turkish BSL in Saturday night's game.
Cruz was MVP of the game. He scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 31 minutes on the court.
Tofas Bursa (3-3) is placed fifth in the BSL.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Cruz has relatively good stats this year: 12.1ppg, 3.0rpg, 4.1apg and FT: 64.7% in nine games he played so far.
Ex-Fuerza Guinda Nogales player is currently a member of the Mexican senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward
Juan Toscano-Anderson (198-93, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
Marquette, currently plays in NBA). He led
Golden State Warriors to an easy victory against the Philadelphia 76ers crushing them
116-96 in the NBA last Wednesday.
Toscano-Anderson recorded 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and made 2 blocks.
The Golden State Warriors have a very solid 16-2 record this season.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year Toscano-Anderson averages: 4.3ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.2apg, 2FGP: 62.5%(20-32), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 81.8%.
He is a naturalized American.
Toscano-Anderson is in the roster of the Mexican senior national team. He used to play for Fuerza Regia Monterrey in Mexican league.
#3. The Mexican player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international swingman
Jaime Jaquez Jr. (198-1, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA. Jaquez Jr. could not help the one of league's weakest teams
UCLA in their last game. Despite his very good performance the UCLA were badly defeated
83-63 on the road by the Gonzaga University.
Jaquez Jr. scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 36 minutes.
Jaquez Jr. has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.2ppg, 7.3rpg, 2.5apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 49.3%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 64.7% in six games.
Jaquez Jr. played for the Mexican national team two years ago.
#4. Point guard
Alexander Perez-Kaufmann (191-93, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams
Turk Telekom in their game against Gaziantep (6-3) in the Turkish BSL.
He scored 5 points and added 4 assists.
Turk Telekom was defeated
83-72 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Gaziantep (#4).
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
Perez-Kaufmann's overall stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 4.0rpg and 4.9apg.
He is also Mexican national team player.
#5. International small forward
Gael Bonilla (204-3, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in a
Barca 2's victory against the second-ranked Basquet Girona 2nd team (6-2) crushing them
87-54 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday.
Bonilla recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in 32 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group C-3. FC Barcelona Lassa 2nd team (8-0) is placed first.
So far his team won all eight games in the Regular Season.
This year Bonilla's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.4apg and 1.9spg in eight games.
He used to play for the Mexican national team
last year.
#6. Point guard
Jared Perez (183-0, currently plays in NCAA2) was not able to secure a victory for the one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams
Northern New Mexico College in their game against the Fort Lewis College in the AII. Perez did not beat the league record on Sunday evening.
He scored only 3 points.
His team was crushed
96-61 in Durango by the Fort Lewis College.
Perez's total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.4apg and 1.9spg.
He is a former U17 international player as he played for the Mexican team four years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Mexican passport: #1. Rafael Medina (193-G/F, currently plays in NCAA2). Medina could not help the one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams
Mount Aloysius College to beat the Malone University.
He scored 6 points in 15 minutes.
His team was crushed
101-62 on the road by the Malone University.
