LNBPF Round 14: Racers lose to Atleticas- April 11, 2022

Barreteras - Las Plebes 77-69 An interesting game for Barreteras (4-8) which hosted in Zacatecas second-ranked Las Plebes (3-9). First ranked Barreteras managed to get a 8-point victory 77-69. Barreteras had a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Las Plebes' players. Alma Dominguez notched 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and American forward Alexis Johnson (185, college: Indiana) supported her with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Even 17 points and 8 rebounds by American swingman Jessica Fairweather (178-1989, college: Queens, NY) did not help to save the game for Las Plebes. Sofia Montoya added 18 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the guests. Barreteras have a solid four-game winning streak. Despite that victory Barreteras went down to tenth position due to points difference. Las Plebes lost sixth consecutive game. They still keep top place with nine games lost. They share the position with Lenadoras. Barreteras will meet higher ranked Mexcaltecas (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Las Plebes will play against the league's leader Phoenix (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory. Racers unexpectedly were defeated by on the road 73-82. Atleticas dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Racers' 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993, agency: DC Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Monica Delgado contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Takoia Larry (180-1991, college: TxWes) replied with 22 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Argentinian guard Julieta Tell (172-1993) added 15 points in the effort for Racers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atleticas maintains sixth position with 6-6 record. Newly promoted Racers still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Atleticas are looking forward to face league's second-placed Lenadoras in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Racers will have a break next round. Host Lenadoras were defeated by Algodoneras in 64-53. American guard Brittany Byrd (175, college: UIC) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Trinidad and Tobago forward Chervelle Cox (186-1992, college: Central St., agency: Jones Sports International) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds during the contest (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four Algodoneras players scored in double figures. Algodoneras' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Fernanda Fausto responded with 22 points and 9 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and American forward Shamika Singleton (185-1989, college: Concordia, TX) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Algodoneras have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place. Lenadoras lost fourth consecutive game. They still keep top position with nine games lost. They share it with Las Plebes. Algodoneras will play against league's second-placed Regias in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Lenadoras will play against Atleticas and hope to get back on the winning track. Escaramuzas outrebounded Mexcaltecas 39-26 including a 31-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Jemia Carpenter (180-1994, college: UT Southern) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and Nayeli Ortiz (174-1998) supported her with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Carpenter is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Escaramuzas players scored in double figures. Even 21 points by Sofia Payan (167-2000) did not help to save the game for Mexcaltecas. Brenda Salazar added 11 points for the hosts. Mexcaltecas' coach Gerardo Guzman rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Escaramuzas maintains fourth position with 8-4 record. Mexcaltecas at the other side dropped to the seventh place with six games lost. Escaramuzas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mexcaltecas will play against Barreteras (#10) and hope to secure a win. Regias dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Teporacas' 18. Regias forced 24 Teporacas turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Cuban Yamara Amargo (179-1985) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the former international Sandra Sanchez (175-1990) supported her with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Five Regias players scored in double figures. Even 21 points by naturalized American swingman Viviana Vasquez (178-1996, college: Toronto) did not help to save the game for Teporacas. Colombian forward Mabel Martinez (180-1986) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Teporacas' coach Angel Gonzalez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Regias maintains second position with 11-1 record behind leader Phoenix. Teporacas at the other side keep the fifth place with five games lost. Regias will meet Algodoneras (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Teporacas will play against Lobas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
