Las Plebes - Phoenix 67-41 Top ranked Phoenix (3-8) recorded its eighth loss on the court of eleventh ranked Las Plebes on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Las Plebes 67-41. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 30. Las Plebes forced 20 Phoenix turnovers. American forward Danielle Forrest-Higgins (178, college: Morgan St.) fired 17 points for the winners. The other American import swingman Jessica Fairweather (178-1989, college: Queens, NY) chipped in 5 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Las Plebes' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Arleth Ortega produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and Thalia Perez added 5 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Las Plebes (5-9) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Barreteras and Algodoneras. Phoenix lost fourth consecutive game. They still keep top position with eight games lost. Las Plebes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in to the arena . Regias forced 21 Algodoneras turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Sandra Sanchez (175-1990) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Anisleydy Galindo who added 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Regias players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Brittany Byrd (175, college: UIC) responded with 27 points and 6 rebounds and Trinidad and Tobago forward Chervelle Cox (186-1992, college: Central St.) scored 8 points and 18 rebounds. Regias have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-1 record having just ten point less than leader Phoenix. Newly promoted Algodoneras keep the eighth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Barreteras and Las Plebes. Regias will meet at home league's second-placed Racers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Algodoneras will have a break next round. Visiting Lenadoras unexpectedly were defeated by in 44-54. Atleticas held Lenadoras to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Four Atleticas players scored in double figures. American forward Shamika Singleton (185-1989, college: Concordia, TX) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and Evelyn Perez added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Lenadoras. Atleticas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Teporacas. Lenadoras lost sixth consecutive game. They still keep top position with 11 games lost. Atleticas will play against Teporacas (#6) in the next round. Lenadoras will play against Lobas (#3) in Ciudad de Mexico and it may be a tough game between close rivals. This time they beat 11th ranked Quetzales (4-8) 93-89 in Ciudad de Mexico. Mieleras dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Quetzales' 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of American forward Destiny Campbell (185, college: ECU) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Brisa Silva (170-1984, college: OK State) who added 25 points and 5 assists during the contest. Mieleras' coach Jonathan Villegas used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-1987) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and American point guard Aniese Palmore (165-1994, college: UMW) scored 23 points and 6 assists. Mieleras (14-0) have an impressive 14-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 14 victories in a row.
