Escaramuzas - Las Plebes 70-58 There was no surprise in Jalisco where 10th ranked Las Plebes (5-10) were defeated by fifth ranked Escaramuzas (11-4) 70-58 on Saturday. Escaramuzas forced 20 Las Plebes turnovers. It was a great evening for Jhoana Moran (157-1993) who led her team to a victory scoring 22 points. Argentinian center Johanna Puchetti (191-1987) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Danielle Forrest-Higgins (178, college: Morgan St.) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import swingman Jessica Fairweather (178-1989, college: Queens, NY) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Escaramuzas have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 11-4 record. Loser Las Plebes keep the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Algodoneras. Escaramuzas will again meet at home Las Plebes (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Las Plebes will have a break next round. They outrebounded Mexcaltecas 43-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Mayra Gil (174-2003) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Destiny Campbell (185, college: ECU) helped adding 21 points and 6 rebounds. Four Mieleras players scored in double figures. At the losing side Sofia Payan (167-2000) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and Brenda Salazar scored 3 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Mieleras have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-0 record. Mexcaltecas lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with ten games lost. Mieleras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mexcaltecas will play again against the league's leader Mieleras (#1) and hope to secure a win. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Quetzales' 26. They outrebounded Quetzales 39-22 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Barreteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Quetzales' players. It was a great evening for Monica Moguel who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Megan Garcia (173, agency: Gamble Sports Management) helped adding 8 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Barreteras' coach Alejandro Rivera used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-1987) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and American point guard Aniese Palmore (165-1994, college: UMW) scored 13 points. Barreteras moved-up to ninth place. Loser Quetzales keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Barreteras will again meet at home higher ranked Quetzales (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quetzales will have a break next round. Visiting Lobas were defeated by Atleticas in a tough game in Monterrey 51-57. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lobas. They outrebounded Lobas 36-21 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. The former international point guard Abril Roldan (168-2002) helped adding 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international swingman Ingrid Martinez (175-1995) responded with 19 points and Puerto Rican Andrea Medina (169-1992) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Atleticas maintains sixth place with 9-8 record. Defending champion Lobas keep the third position with four games lost. Atleticas will again meet at home higher ranked Lobas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lobas will have a break next round. Second ranked Racers (1-14) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Algodoneras (5-10) 72-70 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of Mitzi Lopez who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds. Katia Mendoza contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Brittany Byrd (176-1997, college: UIC) answered with 26 points and 7 rebounds and Trinidad and Tobago forward Chervelle Cox (186-1992, college: Central St.) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Algodoneras. Algodoneras' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Racers maintains second place with 1-14 record having five points less than leader Phoenix. It was Algodoneras' third loss in a row. Algodoneras at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Las Plebes. Racers will again play against Algodoneras (#10) in Comarca in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Algodoneras will have a break next round. Hosts were rolled over by fourth ranked Teporacas (12-6) 74-53. Teporacas outrebounded Lenadoras 47-22 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Lenadoras' players. The former international center Jazmin Valenzuela (187-1989) fired 8 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Colombian guard Maria Delgado (173-1996, college: Angelo St.) chipped in 22 points. American guard Kala Green (175-1996, college: NC A&T) produced 18 points and the other American import forward Shamika Singleton (185-1989, college: Concordia, TX) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Teporacas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 12-6 record. Lenadoras lost tenth consecutive game. They still keep top position with 15 games lost. Teporacas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lenadoras will play again against Teporacas and are hoping to win this game.
