LNBPF Round 21: Mieleras defeat Phoenix

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Phoenix (3-11) in Guanajuato on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Mieleras (19-0) 119-35. Mieleras held Phoenix to an opponent 22.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 59.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Mieleras forced 31 Phoenix turnovers and had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Phoenix's players. It was a good game for point guard Yarelli Padilla (164-1998) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. Gemma Munoz contributed with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Arleth Ortega answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds for Phoenix. Undefeated Mieleras have an impressive series of nineteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 19-0 record which they share with defeated Phoenix. Phoenix lost seventh consecutive game. They still keep top position with 11 games lost. Mieleras are again looking forward to face league's leader Phoenix in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Phoenix will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Regias (16-1) which played road game in Ciudad de Mexico against 3rd placed Lobas (13-6). Second ranked Regias had an easy win 80-59. Cuban Anisleydy Galindo stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Yamara Amargo chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-1984) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds. Lobas' coach Israel Zermeno gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Regias. They maintain second place with 16-1 record having five points less than leader Phoenix. Lobas lost their third game in a row. Defending champion keep the third position with six games lost. They share it with Teporacas. Regias will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lobas will play again against the league's second-placed Regias and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Lenadoras (4-15) which hosted in second-best Racers (2-15). First ranked Lenadoras had an easy win 76-43. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Racers. Shamika Singleton nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side. Lenadoras' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leyda Macias came up with 13 points and 5 rebounds for Racers in the defeat. Despite that victory Lenadoras went down to twelfth position due to points difference. Newly promoted Racers still keep top place with 15 games lost. Lenadoras will again meet at home league's leader Racers in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Racers will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 21: Escaramuzas were beaten by Barreteras on the road 82-65. Quetzales won against Las Plebes on its own court 93-82. Algodoneras were outscored by Teporacas in a road game 100-58.

Barreteras - Escaramuzas 82-65

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Barreteras (7-12) beat 4th placed Escaramuzas (12-5) in Guadalupe 82-65 on Saturday. Barreteras forced 21 Escaramuzas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Megan Garcia (173, agency: Gamble Sports Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and her fellow American import forward Alexis Johnson (183, college: Virginia Union) accounted for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Five Barreteras players scored in double figures. Barreteras' coach Alejandro Rivera used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian center Johanna Puchetti (191-1987) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Ecuadorian guard Doris Lasso (164-1993) added 20 points respectively for Escaramuzas in the defeat. Barreteras moved-up to eighth place. Escaramuzas at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Barreteras will again meet at home higher ranked Escaramuzas (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Escaramuzas will have a break next round.

Very expected game when 11th ranked Las Plebes (5-12) lost to seventh ranked Quetzales (8-9) in Ciudad de Mexico 82-93 on Saturday. Quetzales outrebounded Las Plebes 46-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Las Plebes' players. Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-1987) nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and American point guard Aniese Palmore (165-1994, college: UMW) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Palmore is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Danielle Forrest-Higgins (178, college: Morgan St.) came up with 25 points and the other American import swingman Jessica Fairweather (178-1989, college: Queens, NY) added 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Las Plebes in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Quetzales maintains seventh place with 8-9 record. Las Plebes lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Algodoneras. Quetzales will again meet at home Las Plebes (#11) in the next round. Las Plebes will have a break next round.

Teporacas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Algodoneras' players. The former international swingman Daniela Soto (177-1995) nailed 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Colombian guard Maria Delgado (173-1996, college: Angelo St.) accounted for 25 points and 6 rebounds. Teporacas' coach Angel Gonzalez felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Vania Martinez (181-1996) came up with 19 points and guard Sujei Cera (173-1997) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for Algodoneras in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Teporacas. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Lobas. Algodoneras lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Las Plebes. Teporacas will again meet at home Algodoneras (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Algodoneras will have a break next round.
