Top ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-4) recorded its fourth loss in Guadalajara on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Astros (9-5) 99-95. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Nigerian-American forward Emmanuel Omogbo (203-1995, college: Colorado St.) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) chipped in 18 points. American guard Nojel Eastern (198-1999, college: Howard) produced 31 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Astros moved-up to second place, which they share with Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Astros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rayos de Hermosillo will play at home against Ostioneros de Guaymas and is hoping to win this game.
Eighth-ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (4-9) made lots of trouble for second ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (9-5). The visitors from Culiacan managed to secure only three-point victory 102-99. However their fans expected much easier game. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Teyvion Kirk (193-1999, college: UIC) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 6 assists (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). Barry Ogalue contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Mario Andriolo allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Jimmy Whitt (190-1997, college: Arkansas, agency: Interperformances) answered with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains second place with 9-5 record having just one point less than leader Hermosillo, which they share with Astros. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Venados (#6) in Mazatlan in the next round. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play at home against Pioneros Los Mochis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Los Mochis between Pioneros Los Mochis and Ostioneros de Guaymas. Seventh ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (5-8) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Ostioneros de Guaymas (6-7). Pioneros Los Mochis managed to escape with a 2-point win 89-87 on Friday evening. It was a great evening for Jordan Stevens who led his team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach Guillermo Vecchio used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Anthony Smith responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Pioneros Los Mochis maintains seventh place with 5-8 record. Loser Ostioneros de Guaymas keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Pioneros Los Mochis will meet bottom-ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#8) on the road in the next round. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Hermosillo defeated Astros in a road game 97-89. Tijuana were beaten by Mazatlan at home 70-81. Guaymas lost to Los Mochis on the opponent's court 93-97. Bottom-ranked Obregon outscored Culiacan in a home game 113-94. Mazatlan was rolled over Tijuana on the road 102-62.
The best stats of 7th round was 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Spencer Williams of Tijuana.



Astros - Hermosillo 89-97

There was no surprise in Guadalajara where 3rd placed Astros (9-5) were defeated by first ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-4) 97-89 on Friday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Rayos de Hermosillo looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The game was also dominated by American players. It was a great evening for guard Nojel Eastern (198-1999, college: Howard) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. Guard Terrence Drisdom (196-1992, college: CPP) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side guard Shamorie Ponds (185-1998, college: St.John's) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Rayos de Hermosillo and four Astros players scored in double figures. Astros' coach Ariel Rearte rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-4 record. Newly promoted Astros dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet at home Ostioneros de Guaymas (#4) in the next round. Astros will have a break next round.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Venados' (6-8) road victory over 6th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (6-8) 81-70 on Friday. They outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 45-31 including 35 on the defensive glass. The game was also dominated by American players. It was a great evening for center Vincent Boumann (206-1996, college: WOU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. Point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-1988, college: Oregon, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Strowbridge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Venados players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Joshua Webster (190-1997, college: Missouri St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Jordan Washington (203-1993, college: Iona, agency: Interperformances) scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Venados have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 6-8 record, which they share with Tijuana. Tijuana Zonkeys lost third consecutive game. Venados will meet at home league's second-placed Caballeros de Culiacan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round.

Halcones de Ciudad Obregon outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 36-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Caballeros de Culiacan's players. It was a great evening for American forward Justin Everett (206-1996, college: Humboldt St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import point guard Deshaun Cooper (173-1991, college: NW Missouri St.) helped adding 30 points and 6 assists. At the losing side Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and American guard DAngelo Hunter (201-1996, college: Nicholls St., agency: MSG) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Venados (6-8) were outplayed on the road by sixth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (6-8) 102-62 on Saturday. Tijuana Zonkeys had a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 59.1 percentage. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Venados' players. The game was also dominated by American players. It was a great evening for guard Spencer Williams (188-1995, college: Wooster) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Forward Anthony Young (200-1989, college: KWC) helped adding 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side center Vincent Boumann (206-1996, college: WOU) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Alex Kaye Williams (203-1993) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
