Smith number one in Mexico CIBACOPA for round 9- April 15, 2023
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Los Mochis (#7, 7-12) 98-88. Guaymas maintains the 4th position in Mexican CIBACOPA. Guaymas is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 9-10 record. Smith just recently signed at Guaymas, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former Murray State University star has very solid stats this year. Smith is in league's top in points (4th best: 21.0ppg), rebounds (5th best: 7.7rpg) and averages impressive 64.2% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was young American Tony Farmer (201-F-1994) of Obregon. Farmer had a very good evening with a double-double of 30 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Obregon lost that game 72-80 to the higher-ranked Hermosillo (#1, 15-4). Obregon are still at the very bottom. 14 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Obregon managed to get this year. Farmer is one of the most experienced players at Obregon and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Third on the list of top players last round was American center Vincent Boumann (206-C-1996) of Mazatlan (#6). Boumann got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds . He was a key player of Mazatlan, leading his team to a 93-85 win against the higher-ranked Culiacan (#3, 11-8). The chances of Mazatlan ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 11 games, recording just eight victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Boumann could help Mazatlan to bring them higher in the standings. Boumann has a great season in Mexico. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.4rpg (2nd best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Joshua Webster (190-G-1997) of Tijuana - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists 5. Dylan Smith (196-SG-1997) of Guaymas - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Michaell Jackson (190-PF-1987) of Culiacan - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists 7. John Mitchell (208-F/C-1991) of Los Mochis - 17 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Teyvion Kirk (193-G-1999) of Culiacan - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists 9. Johnny Hughes III (203-F-1997) of Culiacan - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Akia Pruitt (203-PF-1997) of Tijuana - 28 points and 3 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
