Thirteenth-ranked Freseras (5-11) gave a tough game to first ranked Fuerza Regia (15-3) in Monterrey on Saturday. Fuerza Regia managed to secure only three-point victory 93-90. However their fans expected much easier game. Fuerza Regia made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for point guard Micah Speight (178-1998, college: S.Nazarene) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Forward Wayne Langston (200-1993, college: Murray St.) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Fuerza Regia's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) responded with 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Fuerza Regia have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 15-3 record. Freseras lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. A very close game took place in between Correcaminos and Diablos. Fifteenth ranked Correcaminos (5-13) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Diablos (11-7). Correcaminos managed to escape with a 2-point win 97-95 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. The best player for the winners was Manuel Hernandez who scored 30 points. JJ Avila produced 15 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Correcaminos moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Lobos BUAP. Diablos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Plateros. Correcaminos will meet at home league's second-placed Halc.Xalapa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Diablos will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 23: Panteras won against Santos on the opponent's court 91-78. Soles managed to outperform El Calor in a home game 68-66. Dorados recorded a loss to Halc.Xalapa on the road 99-91. Bottom-ranked Abejas were defeated by Plateros on its own court 89-92. Mineros were beaten by Halc.Rojos in Veracruz 93-86. Astros won against Lobos BUAP at home 85-78. Correcaminos were outscored by Diablos on the opponent's court 95-73. Astros managed to beat Lobos BUAP in a home game 70-63.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 9 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals by Desi Washington of Lobos BUAP.




Santos - Panteras 78-91

Very expected game in San Luis Potosi where 9th ranked Santos (8-10) were defeated by third ranked Panteras (12-6) 91-78 on Friday. Panteras shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Justin Bibbs (196-1996, college: Virginia Tech) who scored 19 points. His fellow American import guard Gary Ricks (185-1991, college: Drake) chipped in 15 points. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. American forward Johnny Hughes III (201-1997, college: UIW) produced 18 points and American-Puerto Rican point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-1994) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Panteras have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Despite that victory Panteras went down to fourth position due to points difference. Santos lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with ten games lost. Panteras will meet at home bottom-ranked Abejas (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Santos will play against Lobos BUAP (#14) in Puebla and hope to secure a win.
