Through the years, Latin America has produced some of the most legendary basketball players that the world has ever seen, including Brazilian Leandro Barbosa, Puerto Rican-descendant Carmelo Anthony, and Argentinian Manu Ginobili. Who’s going to be the next Latino basketball legend? Our bets are on one of these quickly rising talents.

Sports Betting On Rising Talents

Betting on unproven rising talents can prove rewarding, but it always carries a certain risk. On top of that, odds might be higher than they should be if there’s a lot of hype around the new and impressive player. For those betting on new and promising players, it’s important to stay clear-headed, take calculated risks, and identify undervalued odds.

This continuously updated full review by PokerStrategy reveals some of the best-rated sports betting sites and apps.

Promising Young Latin American Basketball Players

One of the best places to find young, promising players is during the yearly FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers. Our picks are based mainly on the performance of players during the 2025 Qualifiers, as well as their performance and reputation outside these qualifiers.

Karim López (Mexico)

Mexican basketball player Karim López is one of the youngest on our list, at just 18 years old. He’s currently playing as a Forward for the New Zealand Breakers. He has already impressed with a high level of athleticism and “the skill set of a triple-threat scorer”, as described by FIBA.

Gonzalo Corbalán (Argentina)

Argentinian Gonzalo Corbalán is a promising 23-year-old shooting guard who performed well during the FIBA Qualifiers in 2025, impressing not only with his scoring (12.3 points, three rebounds, and three assists) but also with his confident presence and graceful play.

Nathan Fernandes (Brazil)

Nathan Fernandes is the 21-year-old power forward playing for Brazil’s National Team who was only called up during the last two windows of the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers 2025 and still managed to impress – he was one of the top performers in the last one with 25 points, seven rebounds, plus two blocks and two steals.

Nicolás Martínez (Uruguay)

Uruguayan 21-year-old Nicolás Martínez is playing as a power forward for the Uruguayan National Team and has so far shown efficient scoring – a debut with 20 points, five rebounds, and 77% shots from the field.

Enrique Medina (Venezuela)

21-year-old Enrique Medina from Venezuela has thus far had limited playing time on the field but has already demonstrated his strong skills and impressive defensive potential. Medina has been playing as a centre for the Venezuelan National Team since 2023. His above-average NBA player height of 7'2'' (218 cm) could be another advantage.

Mathias Vazquez (Brazil)

Mathias Vazquez, full name Mathias Alessanco Vazquez dos Santos, was born in Brazil in 2008 and became the youngest-ever debutant for Brazil’s senior team at only 16 years old. His professional career is already impressive, and the young star is considered one of the top international picks for the 2026 NBA draft. Vazquez has been with Real Betis Baloncesto B since 2023.
