LSB Round 7: Derby game ends with Leones' defeat of Jass

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Leones (#3) and Jass (#5). Leones (5-2) won against visiting Jass (2-5) 85-75. They outrebounded Jass 48-31 including a 34-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-92) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 rebounds. American swingman Jonathan Ocasio (203-92, college: New Haven, agency: Paris Global Sports) contributed with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Leones' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist, agency: Promo Sport ID) answered with 31 points and 8 rebounds for Jass. Leones moved-up to second place, which they share with Jinotega. Jass at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Indigenas. Leones' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Managua to the arena Costa Caribe.
An interesting game for Jinotega (5-2) which hosted in Jinotega 4th placed Indigenas (2-5). Third ranked Jinotega managed to get a 11-point victory 84-73. It was a great evening for Owens Kelly who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field). Evander Ortiz helped adding 18 points and 10 assists. At the losing side Dominican Miguel Evangelista (-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jinotega moved-up to second place, which they share with Leones. Newly promoted Indigenas keep the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Jass.
LSB top team - Real Esteli (7-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Costa Caribe (0-7) 116-79. It was a quality performance for Jared Ruiz who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Timothy Jackson came up with 29 points and 6 rebounds for Costa Caribe in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Real Esteli have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Loser Costa Caribe still closes the standings with seven games lost. Real Esteli will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Costa Caribe's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Managua Leones.



Real Esteli - Costa Caribe 116-79

LSB top team - Real Esteli (7-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Costa Caribe (0-7) 116-79. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Costa Caribe's 50 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Costa Caribe 54-34 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Real Esteli looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Costa Caribe's players. It was a quality performance for Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Real Esteli players scored in double figures. American Timothy Jackson (198-93, college: Lindenwood-Bellev.) came up with 29 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Tyquan Scott (201, college: Herkimer County) added 21 points respectively for Costa Caribe in the defeat.
