Bufalos - Indigenas 68-60 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Indigenas (0-1) on the court of Bufalos on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Bufalos 68-60. Bufalos forced 20 Indigenas turnovers. American forward Patrick Wrencher (201-95, college: SFU) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international guard Armando Martinez (190-89) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-88) produced 29 points and Dominican Miguel Almonte added 9 points and 16 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bufalos is looking forward to face Real Esteli (#4) on the road in the next round. Indigenas will play against Leon and are hoping to win this game. Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-92) stepped up and scored 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-91) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Leones' coach Luis Morales used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) and Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Leon forced 20 Leones turnovers. Strangely Leones outrebounded Leon 51-36 including a 23-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Four Leon players scored in double figures. At the losing side Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-92) scored 30 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leon will meet Indigenas (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leones will play against Chinandega and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Local Real Esteli (1-0) outscored Jinotega (0-2) 82-54 on Saturday night. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Jinotega's 26. Real Esteli forced 23 Jinotega turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Puerto Rican swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) stepped up and scored 15 points and 6 assists for the winners and Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) chipped in 19 points. Real Esteli will meet at home Bufalos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jinotega will play against Costa Caribe (#2) in Managua and hope to win that game. Rivas (0-1) played at the court of Chinandega (1-1). Chinandega did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 88-71. Chinandega forced 31 Rivas turnovers and had a 30-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-91, college: Westfield St.) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Point guard Marc Charles (-97) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Center Troy Humphreys answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds and South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist, agency: Promo Sport ID) added 23 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Rivas. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Chinandega will play against Leones (#6) in Managua in the next round. Rivas will have a break next round. Costa Caribe dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Chinandega's 28 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Chinandega 52-32 including a 39-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Costa Caribe looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Cuban Osmel Oliva (180-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Joel Cubillas chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-91, college: Westfield St.) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Marc Charles (-97) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Costa Caribe will meet at home Jinotega (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Chinandega will play against Leones (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
