LSB Round 2 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Round 2 most important game was a victory of Leones over Chinandega 84-81 on Thursday night. They outrebounded Chinandega 54-34 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international center Roger Munoz (208-84, college: Trinity Valley) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-91) contributed with 13 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. point guard Marc Charles (-97) replied with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks for Chinandega. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
An interesting game for Real Esteli which hosted in Esteli Bufalos. Real Esteli had an easy win 115-55. Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Alejandro Carmona chipped in 26 points and 4 assists during the contest. Cuban forward Yuniskel Molina (177-93) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
An interesting game for Costa Caribe which played road game in against Bufalos. Costa Caribe managed to get a 9-point victory 81-72. Osmel Oliva notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds by Patrick Wrencher did not help to save the game for Bufalos. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
The game in Matagalpa supposed to be also worth to mention about. Leon played at the court of Indigenas. Leon smashed Indigenas 98-71. The best player for the winners was Chris Blake who had a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and 6 steals. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.

In the last game of round 2 winless Jinotega lost to undefeated Costa Caribe on the road 67-73.
The most impressive performance of 2nd round was 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by Marvin Cairo of Jinotega.

Real Esteli - Bufalos 115-55

An interesting game for Real Esteli which hosted in Esteli Bufalos. Real Esteli had an easy win 115-55. Real Esteli held Bufalos to an opponent 23.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 55.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Real Esteli forced 20 Bufalos turnovers and outrebounded them 54-34 including a 39-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Bufalos' players. Real Esteli brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Puerto Rican swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) chipped in 26 points and 4 assists during the contest. Four Real Esteli players scored in double figures. Cuban forward Yuniskel Molina (177-93) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Patrick Wrencher (201-95, college: SFU) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Indigenas' players. The best player for the winners was American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) who had a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and 6 steals. Puerto Rican forward Luis Cuascut (196-98, college: PR-Bayamon) chipped in 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Leon players scored in double figures. Dominican Miguel Almonte produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-87) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.

An interesting game for Costa Caribe which played road game in against Bufalos. Costa Caribe managed to get a 9-point victory 81-72. Costa Caribe made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Costa Caribe made 9 blocks. Cuban Osmel Oliva (180-87) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Joel Cubillas supported him with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 7 blocks. Even a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds by American forward Patrick Wrencher (201-95, college: SFU) did not help to save the game for Bufalos. Cuban power forward Eliezer Lima (202-75) added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Four Bufalos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

No shocking result in a game when Costa Caribe beat Jinotega in Managua 73-67. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was Cuban Osmel Oliva (180-87) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Joel Cubillas chipped in 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Costa Caribe's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-91) produced 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) added 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four Jinotega players scored in double figures.
