LSB Round 10: Leader Leon loses to Rivas

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked Leon (10-3) recorded its third loss at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by eighth ranked Rivas (3-8) 81-60. American guard B.J. Glasford (193-95, college: Stetson, agency: Green Sports Management) fired 29 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist, agency: Promo Sport ID) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Bufalos. Leon at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Rivas is looking forward to face higher ranked Jinotega (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leon will play against the league's second-placed Real Esteli having rather not much hope for a victory.

Worth to mention a great performance of Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds (on 16-of-18 shooting from the field). Chris Blake contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Cuban forward Yuniskel Molina (183-93) replied with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Bufalos. Bufalos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leon maintains first position with 10-3 record. Bufalos lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with Rivas. Leon will play against league's second-placed Real Esteli at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bufalos will play against the league's second-placed Real Esteli (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in Managua was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Jinotega (7-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Leones (6-6). Jinotega defeated Leones 74-62 on Thursday. Marvin Cairo had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Xavier Zambrana responded with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Leones' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Jinotega have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 7-4 record. Leones lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Jinotega will meet Rivas (#8) in the next round. Leones will play against Rivas and hope to secure a win.

Indigenas at the other side keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Real Esteli's next round opponent will be league's leader Leon and it will be for sure the game of the week.

In the last game of round 10 bottom-ranked Chinandega was defeated by Costa Caribe in Managua 64-56.



Real Esteli - Indigenas 85-63

The game with biggest result difference took place in Esteli. Local Real Esteli (8-2) outscored 6th ranked Indigenas (5-7) 85-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Indigenas. They outrebounded Indigenas 45-29 including 33 on the offensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Real Esteli especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Indigenas' players. Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) notched 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Puerto Rican forward Jose Guitian (207-87, college: Lasell) supported him with 15 points and 7 assists. Real Esteli's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 24 points (made all of his eight free throws) by Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-88) did not help to save the game for Indigenas. The former international guard Romario Ponce (180-95) added 14 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Real Esteli have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record having five points less than leader Leon. Indigenas at the other side keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Real Esteli's next round opponent will be league's leader Leon and it will be for sure the game of the week.

There was no surprise in Managua where 9th ranked Chinandega (1-9) was defeated by third ranked Costa Caribe (7-3) 64-56. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-94) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) supported him with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 16 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks by American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) did not help to save the game for Chinandega. Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-91, college: Westfield St.) added 14 points, 8 assists and 7 steals for lost side. Costa Caribe maintains third position with 7-3 record having 3 victories less than leader Leon. Chinandega lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
