Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Leon (10-4) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by Real Esteli (10-2) 78-64. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Esteli made 7 blocks. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Barthel Lopez (213-89) contributed with 11 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winners. Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 20 rebounds for Leon. Real Esteli have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Leon at the other side dropped to the second place with four games lost. Real Esteli will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leon will play at home against Jinotega and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game for Rivas (4-9) which hosted 4th placed Jinotega (7-5). Seventh ranked Rivas had an easy win 79-69. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Jinotega. It was a great evening for center Troy Humphreys (195-90) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Quentin Davis helped adding 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) responded with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rivas maintains seventh place with 4-9 record. Jinotega at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Rivas will play against bottom-ranked Chinandega (#9) in the next round. Jinotega will play against the league's second-placed Leon (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Troy Humphreys came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Rivas in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones maintains fifth place with 7-6 record. Loser Rivas keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rivas will play against Chinandega (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best player for the winners was Jared Ruiz who scored 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Real Esteli. They keep a position of league leader. Bufalos lost their seventh game in a row. They dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Real Esteli will have a break next round. Bufalos will play against Costa Caribe (#3) in Managua and hope to win that game.



Rivas - Leones 69-78

The game in was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Leones (7-6) played at the court of 7th ranked Rivas (4-9). Leones managed to secure a 9-point victory 78-69 on Tuesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rivas. They outrebounded Rivas 52-37 including a 41-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-92) who led the winners and scored 32 points and 7 rebounds. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-91) accounted for 7 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Center Troy Humphreys (195-90) came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Fritz Cox added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Rivas in the defeat. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Bufalos' 44. They outrebounded Bufalos 44-33 including a 34-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) who scored 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Four Real Esteli players scored in double figures.
