Leones - Chinandega 82-78 There was no surprise in Managua where 9th ranked Chinandega (2-11) was defeated by fifth ranked Leones (8-6) 82-78. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-92) nailed 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Mario Garcia (182-0) accounted for 19 points. American Marcus Faison (196-94, college: Salem St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Bryan Parajon (183) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Chinandega in the defeat. Four Chinandega players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Leones moved-up to third place, which they share with Jinotega. Chinandega at the other side stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Leones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Managua to the arena Costa Caribe. Real Esteli dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Jinotega's 46. They outrebounded Jinotega 48-28 including a 15-3 advantage in defensive rebounds. Real Esteli looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) fired 26 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) chipped in 28 points and 14 rebounds. At the losing side Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-94) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-87) scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Leon maintains second place with 11-5 record having just three point less than leader Real Esteli. Loser Costa Caribe keeps the fifth position with four games lost.
