LSB Round 14: Jinotega lose to Costa Caribe

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most important game in the last round took place in Managua between third ranked Jinotega (8-7) and fifth ranked Costa Caribe (8-4) on Saturday night. Jinotega was defeated by Costa Caribe on the road 82-96. Costa Caribe looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-87) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-94) contributed with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-91) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for Jinotega. Costa Caribe moved-up to third place. Jinotega at the other side dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. Costa Caribe are looking forward to face league's leader Real Esteli at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jinotega will play against Bufalos (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
LSB top team - Real Esteli (12-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Chinandega (2-12) 103-61. Point guard Sharlon Hodgson (183-94) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Francisco Garth chipped in 8 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Esteli have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-2 record. Chinandega lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Real Esteli will play against Costa Caribe (#3) in Managua in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Chinandega will play against Bufalos (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Bufalos - Rivas 65-78

The game in was also quite interesting. Seventh ranked Rivas (6-10) played at the court of 8th ranked Bufalos (3-10). Rivas defeated Bufalos 78-65 on Friday. American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) notched 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist, agency: Promo Sport ID) supported him with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 18 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists by Cuban forward Yuniskel Molina (183-93) did not help to save the game for Bufalos. American forward Patrick Wrencher (201-95, college: SFU) added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. They outrebounded Chinandega 70-50 including a 45-30 advantage in offensive rebounds. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Chinandega's players. Point guard Sharlon Hodgson (183-94) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Francisco Garth (191-99) chipped in 8 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest.
