LSB Round 16: Leon are upset by Indigenas- October 28, 2020
There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LSB. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Chinandega - Costa Caribe 77-105 Local Chinandega (2-14) was outscored by fifth ranked Costa Caribe (9-6) 105-77. Costa Caribe forced 19 Chinandega turnovers and outrebounded them 57-35 including a 32-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Costa Caribe players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds. Erick Federick contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Costa Caribe players scored in double figures. American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and his fellow American import Marcus Faison (196-94, college: Salem St.) added 6 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Chinandega. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Costa Caribe moved-up to third place, which they share with Leones. Chinandega lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Costa Caribe will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chinandega will play against Rivas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Leon was defeated by Indigenas on the road 90-75. They made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Indigenas forced 20 Leon turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. American forward Justin Patton (201-89, college: N.Texas) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Dominican Miguel Almonte produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) added 17 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leon's coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Indigenas maintains sixth position with 7-8 record. Leon at the other side keeps the second place with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
