Ayarza's double-double lands him Player of the Week award- August 22, 2021
He had a double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds, while his team crushed Rivas (#6, 1-1) with 21-point margin 97-76. It allowed Real Esteli to consolidate first place in the Nicaraguan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Real Esteli has a very solid 3-1 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Ayarza had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Real Esteli's top player in his first season with the team. University of Southern Mississippi graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ayarza is in league's top in points (3rd best: 23.0ppg) and averages solid 64.5% FGP. Second best performed player last round was Yosniel Morales (196-PF-87) of Tigres. He is Cuban forward in his first season at Tigres. In the last game Morales recorded impressive double-double of 20 points and 23 rebounds. Bad luck as Tigres lost that game 74-86 to Ingenieria (2-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Morales is a newcomer at Tigres and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. Third place about best performers goes to forward Osmel Olivas (F) of Ingenieria (#3). Olivas showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, eight rebounds and eleven assists (!!!) in the last round. He was a key player of Ingenieria, leading his team to a 86-74 win against Tigres (#9, 0-3). Ingenieria has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Olivas also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. Olivas has a great season in Nicaragua. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.5ppg (6th best) and assists with 7.5apg (best passer). Other top performing players last week: 4. Jose Ortiz (SG) of Tigres - 27 points and 6 rebounds 5. Troy Watson (197-PF-82) of Ingenieria - 14 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Ronald Lawton (F) of Ingenieria - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists 7. Lisvan Valdez (196-SG-88) of Real Esteli - 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Harold Barberena (179-SG-82) of Rivas - 17 points and 4 rebounds 9. Rudy Taylor (198-C-83) of Ingenieria - 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Quentin Davis (199-PF) of Rivas - 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues.
