LSB Round 33: Leones MGA defeat Brumas

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Brumas (18-6) in Managua on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Leones MGA (13-9) 83-68. Leones MGA dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Brumas' 36. Leones MGA forced 21 Brumas turnovers. It was a good game for American forward Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import Cameron Lard (206-97, college: Iowa St.) contributed with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-91) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for Brumas. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones MGA have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Brumas at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Leones MGA are looking forward to face Leon (#7) in the next round. Brumas will have a break next round.
The game in was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Real Esteli (15-8) played at the court of 6th ranked Ingenieria (12-12). Real Esteli managed to secure a 7-point victory 93-86. American-Puerto Rican Melsahn Basabe (201-92, college: Iowa) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Julian Roberts chipped in 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Real Esteli's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican forward Felix Rivera-Vega (201-97, college: Georgetown, KY, agency: Paris Global Sports) with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. Real Esteli have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 15-8 record having four points less than leader Brumas. Ingenieria at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. Real Esteli will play against bottom-ranked Tigres (#9) in Chinandega in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ingenieria will have a break next round.

Xavier de la Rosa nailed 46 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Miguel Almonte came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for Leon in the defeat. Cacique D. maintains second place with 17-7 record behind leader Brumas. Loser Leon keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Cacique D. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leon will play against Leones MGA (#4) and hope to secure a win.



Ingenieria - Real Esteli 86-93

The game in was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Real Esteli (15-8) played at the court of 6th ranked Ingenieria (12-12). Real Esteli managed to secure a 7-point victory 93-86. Real Esteli outrebounded Ingenieria 56-39 including a 41-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Real Esteli especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American-Puerto Rican Melsahn Basabe (201-92, college: Iowa) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Julian Roberts chipped in 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field).
