LSB Round 2: Jaguares hand first defeat to UNI Basket- July 25, 2022
There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LSB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
UNI Basket - Jaguares 84-87 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of UNI Basket at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Jaguares 87-84. 25 personal fouls committed by UNI Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (206-1990, college: Millersville) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Jaguares players scored in double figures. Brian Vasquez produced 31 points and 4 assists and Puerto Rican point guard Luis Rivera (180-1998) added 10 points and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Indigenas dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Occidentales' 46. They outrebounded Occidentales 51-35 including a 21-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Indigenas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Dominican Jeffry Arias scored 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and Dominican Jose Espinal chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Guard Deikel Sanchez responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) scored 16 points and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones MGA had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Leones MGA especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 6 assists. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four Leones MGA players scored in double figures. American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Pablo Rivas added 21 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Leon. Leon's coach Jose Gomez rotated fifteen players seeing no chance for a win. Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) scored 32 points, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Dalton Cacho (200-1993) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Cuban Yosniel Morales (196-1987) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and guard Marvin Omier (205-1984) scored 17 points. Five Rivas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. They outrebounded Caribbean Coast 49-32 including a 35-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international center Bartel Lopez (213-1989) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Sharlon Hodgson (183-1994) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists during the contest. American forward Chris Blake (195-1988, college: Detroit) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caribbean Coast's coach Chester Linarte tested eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.
