Brumas - Occidentales 119-76 There was no surprise in Jinotega where 8th ranked Occidentales (1-5) were crushed by fourth ranked Brumas (4-2) 119-76 on Wednesday. Brumas dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Occidentales' 48. Brumas forced 25 Occidentales turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 29 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Occidentales' players. The former international Dayton Cacho (186-1991) stepped up and scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Jordy Allen responded with 24 points and 4 assists and American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Brumas and four Occidentales players scored in double figures. Occidentales' coach Darwin Veliz gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Brumas moved-up to third place, which they share with Leones MGA. Loser Occidentales keep the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Leon. Brumas will meet at home Indigenas (#5) in the next round. Occidentales will have a break next round. Real Esteli defeated 4th placed Leones MGA at home 77-71. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican forward Leandro Allende (198-1998, college: Barry) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Real Esteli (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Indigenas made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Dominican Jeffry Arias stepped up and scored 49 points (!!!), 5 assists and 7 steals for the winners and Dominican power forward Teodoro Romero (202-1990) chipped in 20 points and 19 rebounds. American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Sydney Obando scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Indigenas moved-up to fifth place. Rivas lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Indigenas will meet higher ranked Brumas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rivas will play against the league's leader Real Esteli (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory. Leon's coach Jose Gomez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caribbean Coast was defeated at home 85-89 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Leones MGA had a 32-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Caribbean Coast was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Jean Quezada (-2000) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Leones MGA players scored in double figures. Leones MGA's coach William Columbus allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Dominican swingman Luis Feliz (190-2002) answered with 35 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Caribbean Coast. Leones MGA (4-2) moved-up to third place, which they share with Brumas. Caribbean Coast at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with UNI Basket. Leones MGA will play against UNI Basket (#7) in the next round. Caribbean Coast will play against Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
