LSB Round 13: Jaguares are defeated by Leon

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between second ranked Jaguares (10-2) and seventh ranked Leon (4-7) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. Jaguares were defeated by Leon on the road 85-68. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Jaguares. Leon looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Pablo Rivas chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (206-1990, college: Millersville) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leon maintains seventh place with 4-7 record. Jaguares at the other side keep the second position with two games lost. Leon are looking forward to face higher ranked Brumas (#4) in Jinotega in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jaguares will play on the road against Indigenas in Matagalpa and are hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Rivas managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. This time they won against eighth-ranked Indigenas 99-91. Cuban Yosniel Morales (196-1987) nailed a double-double by scoring 30 points and 19 rebounds for the winning side and Quentin Davis accounted for 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican Jeffry Arias came up with 58 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists for Indigenas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rivas (2-10) moved-up to ninth place. Indigenas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with nine games lost. Rivas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Indigenas will play at home against the league's second-placed Jaguares (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
The game in Matagalpa supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked UNI Basket (8-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Indigenas (3-9). UNI Basket smashed Indigenas 113-86 on Wednesday. Brian Vazquez fired 36 points (!!!) and 6 assists for the winners. Jeffry Arias produced 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UNI Basket have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-4 record having four points less than leader Real Esteli. Indigenas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with nine games lost. UNI Basket will meet at home bottom-ranked Occidentales (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Indigenas will play against the league's second-placed Jaguares and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 13 bottom-ranked Rivas were destroyed by Leones MGA on the opponent's court 79-54. Occidentales unfortunately lost to Brumas in a home game 64-80.



Leon - Jaguares 85-68

The game in Matagalpa supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked UNI Basket (8-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Indigenas (3-9). UNI Basket smashed Indigenas 113-86 on Wednesday. UNI Basket made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. UNI Basket outrebounded Indigenas 48-37 including 36 on the offensive glass. Leones MGA - Rivas 79-54

Very expected game in Managua where 10th ranked Rivas (2-10) were crushed by fifth ranked Leones MGA (7-5) 79-54 on Thursday. Leones MGA dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Rivas' 28. Leones MGA forced 22 Rivas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Forward Jean Quezada (-2000) fired 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) produced 17 points and Joseph Lindo added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Leones MGA moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Brumas. Rivas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Leones MGA will meet at home league's leader Real Esteli in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rivas will have a break next round.

Very predictable result in Chinandega where fourth ranked Brumas (7-5) defeated bottom-ranked Occidentales (2-11) 80-64 on Thursday. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) fired 20 points for the winners. Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Brumas' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Deikel Sanchez produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jordy Allen added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Brumas maintains fourth place with 7-5 record, which they share with Leones MGA. Occidentales lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. Brumas will meet Leon (#7) in the next round. Occidentales will play against UNI Basket and hope to secure a win.
