UNI Basket - Real Esteli 84-89 An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in . First ranked Real Esteli faced 3rd placed UNI Basket. Guests from Esteli (16-1) defeated host UNI Basket (10-6) 89-84. They outrebounded UNI Basket 61-43 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international swingman Francisco Garth (195-1999) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Real Esteli's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) answered with 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and American center Scott Sill (206-1992, college: Delaware St.) added 11 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for UNI Basket. Occidentales forced 20 Indigenas turnovers. Strangely Indigenas outrebounded Occidentales 50-35 including 35 on the offensive glass. Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) stepped up and scored 31 points and 4 assists for the winners and guard Deikel Sanchez chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds. Dominican Jose Espinal responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and guard Reynaldo Pastora scored 15 points. Indigenas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Occidentales maintains ninth place with 3-14 record. Indigenas lost tenth consecutive game. Caribbean Coast (6-8) won against visiting Jaguares (13-4) 87-75. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican forward Christian Negron (201-1998, college: GVSU) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 23 rebounds. Luis Lopez Martinez chipped in 38 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Caribbean Coast's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Pablo Rivas chipped in 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Leon players scored in double figures. Guard Deikel Sanchez responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 25 rebounds and Mauro Guerrero scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Leon have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 7-8 record. Loser Occidentales keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Third ranked Brumas (11-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Indigenas (3-13). Brumas defeated Indigenas 89-78 on Friday. Brumas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) stepped up and scored 26 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners and the former international Dalton Cacho (200-1993) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Four Brumas players scored in double figures. Dominican power forward Teodoro Romero (202-1990) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds and Dominican guard Jefry Arias (182-1994) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Brumas have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 11-5 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli. Indigenas lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 13 games lost.
