Occidentales - Caribbean Coast 81-93 There was no surprise in Chinandega where 9th ranked Occidentales (3-15) were defeated by seventh ranked Caribbean Coast (7-8) 93-81. Caribbean Coast outrebounded Occidentales 42-24 including a 33-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. It was a good game for Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 8 rebounds, 17 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Forward Christian Negron (201-1998, college: GVSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Caribbean Coast players scored in double figures. Guard Deikel Sanchez replied with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) added 21 points in the effort for Occidentales. Caribbean Coast moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Leon. Occidentales at the other side keep the ninth position with 15 games lost. This time they crushed 10th ranked Rivas (2-13) 109-62. Real Esteli looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Rivas' players. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who scored 44 points (!!!). Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Cuban Yosniel Morales (196-1987) added 4 points and 14 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Esteli (17-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Rivas lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. It was a good game for American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) contributed with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Rivera (180-1998) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) added 6 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for UNI Basket. Leones MGA maintains fifth position with 9-8 record. UNI Basket at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost.
