LSB Round 20: Brumas are upset by Leones MGA

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Managua between third ranked Brumas (13-6) and fifth ranked Leones MGA (10-8) on Sunday night. Brumas were crushed by Leones MGA on the road 76-54. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Brumas. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) who scored 30 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) chipped in 20 points and 16 rebounds. Leones MGA's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) produced 20 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Leones MGA maintains fifth position with 10-8 record. Brumas at the other side keep the third place with six games lost.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Managua. Local Caribbean Coast (8-8) outscored 10th ranked Rivas (2-16) 98-69. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds, 13 assists and 7 steals. Christian Negron contributed with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) replied with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Rivas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Caribbean Coast have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 8-8 record. Rivas lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost.

In the last two games of round 20 Leon were crushed by Jaguares in Managua 83-61. UNI Basket beat Indigenas at home 85-71.



Jaguares - Leon 83-61

There was no surprise in Managua where 7th ranked Leon (7-10) was crushed by second ranked Jaguares (15-4) 83-61. Jaguares dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Leon's 24. They outrebounded Leon 58-38 including a 43-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. Jaguares players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Leon's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Guard Kaleb Myers (-2004) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Hampton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Puerto Rican guard Antonio Ralat (188, college: UAB) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Walter Diaz (179-1989) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Leon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares maintains second position with 15-4 record having just one point less than leader Real Esteli. Leon at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost.

UNI Basket - Indigenas 85-71

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked UNI Basket (11-8) defeated at home 8th ranked Indigenas (4-14) 85-71. UNI Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Indigenas' 40. They outrebounded Indigenas 54-31 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. UNI Basket players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Indigenas' players. The former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 5 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Dominican power forward Teodoro Romero (202-1990) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-1987) added 13 points and 4 steals in the effort for Indigenas. Four Indigenas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. UNI Basket maintains fourth position with 11-8 record. Indigenas at the other side keep the eighth place with 14 games lost.
