Thomas' double-double lands him Player of the Week award- September 28, 2022
He had a double-double of 34 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat Jaguares (#2, 15-5) 107-100. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. UNI Basket maintains the 4th position in Nicaraguan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. UNI Basket will need more victories to improve their 12-8 record. In the team's last game Thomas had a remarkable 52.6% from 2-point range. He turned to be UNI Basket's top player in his first season with the team. Vansdell Thomas averages this season 17.7ppg and 5.3rpg. Second best performed player last round was Mauro Guerrero of Occidentales. He is a in his 2nd season at Occidentales. In the last game Guerrero recorded impressive 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course he led Occidentales to another comfortable win outscoring slightly higher-ranked Indigenas (4-15) 105-84. Occidentales' 9th position in the standings has not changed. 15 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Occidentales managed to get this year. Guerrero is well-known at Occidentales and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. Third place about best performers goes to forward Teodoro Romero (202-F/C-1990) of Indigenas (#8). Romero got into 30-points club by scoring 34 points in the last round. He went also for ten rebounds . Despite Romero's great performance Indigenas lost 84-105 to Occidentales (4-15). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Indigenas can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Romero has individually a great season in Nicaragua. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.5rpg (5th best). Other top performing players last week: 4.
