Real Esteli - Caribbean Coast 90-78 Leader Real Esteli delivered the eighteenth victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Caribbean Coast (8-9) 90-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Caribbean Coast. It was a good game for Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 29 points and 6 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists and Puerto Rican forward Christian Negron (201-1998, college: GVSU) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Caribbean Coast. Four Real Esteli and five Caribbean Coast players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Real Esteli (18-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Caribbean Coast at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Jaguares were defeated by UNI Basket in a tough game on the road 100-107. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaguares. UNI Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) chipped in 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Romario Ponce (180-1995) who recorded 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and American center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) added 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Four UNI Basket and five Jaguares players scored in double figures. UNI Basket maintains fourth place with 12-8 record. Jaguares at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. Local Indigenas (4-15) were outscored by ninth ranked Occidentales (4-15) 105-84 on Monday night. It was a great shooting night for Occidentales especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 83.3 percentage. Mauro Guerrero stepped up and scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Four Occidentales players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican power forward Teodoro Romero (202-1990) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-1987) scored 19 points and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Occidentales moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Indigenas.
