Real Esteli - Caribbean Coast 90-78 Leader Real Esteli delivered the eighteenth victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Caribbean Coast (8-9) 90-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Caribbean Coast. It was a good game for Puerto Rican guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 29 points and 6 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists and Puerto Rican forward Christian Negron (201-1998, college: GVSU) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Caribbean Coast. Four Real Esteli and five Caribbean Coast players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Real Esteli (18-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Caribbean Coast at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Brumas made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) stepped up and scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Cuban Yosniel Morales (196-1987) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Four Brumas and five Rivas players scored in double figures. Rivas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Brumas maintains third place with 14-6 record having three points less than leader Real Esteli. Rivas lost their seventh game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Fifth ranked Leones MGA (11-8) played at the court of 7th ranked Leon (7-11). Leones MGA managed to secure a 9-point victory 95-86 on Thursday. Leones MGA looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) stepped up and scored 31 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) chipped in 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was naturalized American guard Peter Martinez (177-1996, college: William Pater.) with 25 points and 5 assists and Puerto Rican guard Antonio Ralat (188, college: UAB) scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. Four Leon players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Leones MGA. They maintain fifth place with 11-8 record. Leon lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Jaguares were defeated by UNI Basket in a tough game on the road 100-107. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaguares. UNI Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) chipped in 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Romario Ponce (180-1995) who recorded 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and American center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) added 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Four UNI Basket and five Jaguares players scored in double figures. UNI Basket maintains fourth place with 12-8 record. Jaguares at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. It was a great shooting night for Occidentales especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 83.3 percentage. Mauro Guerrero stepped up and scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Four Occidentales players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican power forward Teodoro Romero (202-1990) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and Raul Mendoza (190-1987) scored 19 points and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Occidentales moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Indigenas.
