Forward Josmel Martinez (198-F) had an amazing evening in the last round for Leones MGA and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 31.
He recorded a triple-double of 32 points adding also 19 rebounds and 10 assists, while his team beat Occidentales (#9, 5-21) 96-85. Leones MGA maintains the 6th position in Nicaraguan league. Leones MGA is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-13 record. In the team's last game Martinez had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Leones MGA's top player in his first season with the team. Broward College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Martinez is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 12.1rpg), assists (5th best: 3.0apg) and averages solid 54.8% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Robert Nieves (188-G-1999) of Occidentales. He is Puerto Rican-American guard in his first season at Occidentales. In the last game Nieves recorded impressive 35 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Occidentales lost that game 85-96 to the higher-ranked Leones MGA (#6, 13-13). Occidentales managed to keep the same 9th spot in the standings. 21 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Occidentales managed to get this year. Nieves is a newcomer at Occidentales and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.4ppg (#8). He also recorded 3.2 assists per game.
Third place about best performers goes to another Leones MGA's star - center Chyse Webster (204-C-2000). Webster showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, sixteen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Leones MGA, helping his team with a 96-85 win against the lower-ranked Occidentales (#9, 5-21). Leones MGA needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 13 victories and 13 lost games. Webster has a very solid season. In 11 games in Nicaragua he scored 9.7ppg. He also has 5.3rpg and FGP: 53.2%.
