LSB Round 9: Caribbean Coast keep a leadership position- August 31, 2023

Caribbean Coast - Jaguares 103-90 The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Caribbean Coast as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Caribbean Coast defeated 7th ranked Jaguares in Managua 103-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaguares. Caribbean Coast looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Jaguares helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) stepped up and scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) chipped in 17 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Caribbean Coast players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican power forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa (209-1990, college: UNLV) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and American Joel Kindred (193-1991, college: St.Augustine) scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Leon. Jaguares at the other side keep the seventh place with two games lost. Brumas dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Indigenas' 34. They outrebounded Indigenas 46-25 including a 38-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Brumas players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) nailed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American power forward Amir Warnock (206-1995, college: KWC) accounted for 22 points and 10 rebounds. Four Brumas players scored in double figures. Canadian swingman Zekiah Owens (197-1998, college: AIC) came up with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Tylan Dean (185-1999, college: Rogers St.) added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for Indigenas in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Brumas went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with UNI Basket. Indigenas lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with Tigres.
