TBN Round 7 (Regular Season): Sebaco beat Real Esteli by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 7 in the TBN took place in Esteli. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Real Esteli (4-3) to seventh ranked Sebaco (5-1) 68-65 on Saturday evening. Strangely Real Esteli outrebounded Sebaco 65-47 including a 26-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard David Toruno (-1992) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Erick Mairena (-2004) contributed with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Nishon Thomas answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 24 rebounds for Real Esteli. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sebaco have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Real Esteli lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with three games lost. Sebaco are looking forward to face La Libertad (#12) in Juigalpa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Real Esteli will play on the road against Carazo (#11) in Jinotepe and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.

It was a great evening for Jovanni Serrano who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Michael Lampson helped adding 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Luis Urbina (180-1996) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Jass went down to ninth position due to points difference, which they share with Carazo and Hurricane. Sur Rivas at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Jass' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Managua to the arena San Judas.

This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to sixth ranked San Judas (6-3) 103-72 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Rudy Taylor who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. San Judas' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Carlos Valdivia came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for Leon in the defeat. San Judas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Loser Leon still closes the standings with eight games lost. San Judas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Managua Jass.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Brumas smashed Alcaldia Alma on the road 64-41. La Libertad won against Leones on its own court 88-84. Carazo lost to undefeated Tipitapa in Managua 60-67. UNAN de managed to beat UNAN de at home 61-53. Hurricane was defeated by Tigres on the opponent's court 82-66.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 19 points and 8 rebounds by Hector Rodriguez of Tigres.



Jass - Sur Rivas 71-68

Bottom-ranked Sur Rivas is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to eighth ranked Jass (4-4) 71-68. Jass forced 25 Sur Rivas turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Sur Rivas were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Jovanni Serrano who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Michael Lampson helped adding 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Juan Herrera (187-1996) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Rafael Mendoza (171-2001) accounted for 10 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Eliezer Lopez came up with 7 points and 9 rebounds and Jaymar Hodgson added 7 points respectively for Alcaldia Alma in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brumas have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Forward Carlos Guillen (-1991) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Armando Martinez (190-1988) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for Carazo in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tipitapa have an impressive series of six victories in a row.
