The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Costa Caribe (#3) and Leones (#7). Costa Caribe (10-3) won against visiting Leones (3-10) 101-90. Costa Caribe dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Leones' 30. They outrebounded Leones 55-33 including a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Costa Caribe looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Puerto Rican guard Jorge Matos (185-1992) contributed with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American swingman Deondre Wade (194, college: Seminole St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for Leones. Costa Caribe have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with UNAN de. Leones at the other side keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Costa Caribe is looking forward to face Brumas (#4) in Jinotega in the next round. Leones will play on the road against Indigenas in Matagalpa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LSB top team - Jaguares (10-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked UNI Basket (2-12) in Managua 110-52. It was a great evening for international Kevin Andino (186-2002) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Herman Mullins helped adding 14 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Angel Alvarado (196-2004) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares maintains first place with 10-1 record. UNI Basket lost twelfth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Jaguares will play against Real Esteli (#5) at home in the next round. UNI Basket will have a break next round.
