The most exciting game of round 17 in the LSB took place in Managua. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Brumas (14-5) to first ranked Jaguares (16-3) 91-89 on Sunday evening. Jaguares forced 19 Brumas turnovers. Raimer Mercedes orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward TyQuane Goard (201-1993, college: Marshall) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American Glenn Sanabria (180-1996, college: SFC) answered with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for Brumas. Jaguares maintains first place with 16-3 record. Brumas at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. They share it with Costa Caribe.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Brumas (14-5) against fifth ranked Real Esteli (10-9) on Friday night. Host Brumas were defeated by Real Esteli in Jinotega 91-81. Puerto Rican Ismael Cruz (190-2000, college: Indian Hills) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners and Jared Ruiz chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Puerto Rican Antonio Gordon (206-2001, college: Oklah.Christian) responded with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Real Esteli maintains fifth place with 10-9 record. Brumas at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. They share it with Costa Caribe. Real Esteli will play against bottom-ranked UNI Basket (#9) in the next round. Brumas will have a break next round.
LSB top team - Jaguares (16-3) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed ninth ranked UNI Basket (2-18) 131-71. Josmel Martinez nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Jaguares' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Francisco Alvarez came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds for UNI Basket in the defeat. Jaguares maintains first place with 16-3 record. UNI Basket lost eighteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Jaguares will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UNI Basket will play against Real Esteli (#5) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 17 Real Esteli smashed Indigenas on the road 145-100.




Brumas - Real Esteli 81-91

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Brumas (14-5) against fifth ranked Real Esteli (10-9) on Friday night. Host Brumas were defeated by Real Esteli in Jinotega 91-81. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Puerto Rican Ismael Cruz (190-2000, college: Indian Hills) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international Jared Ruiz (188-1992, agency: BMS Sport Agency) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Puerto Rican Antonio Gordon (206-2001, college: Oklah.Christian) responded with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Goree Venable-Gonzalez (201, college: AIC) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Real Esteli maintains fifth place with 10-9 record. Brumas at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. They share it with Costa Caribe. Real Esteli will play against bottom-ranked UNI Basket (#9) in the next round. Brumas will have a break next round.

LSB top team - Jaguares (16-3) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed ninth ranked UNI Basket (2-18) 131-71. Jaguares forced 29 UNI Basket turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by UNI Basket's players. International forward Josmel Martinez (198-1999, college: Broward CC, agency: BMS Sport Agency) nailed 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and international Kevin Andino (186-2002) accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. Jaguares' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dominican Francisco Alvarez came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and forward Angel Alvarado (196-2004) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for UNI Basket in the defeat. Five Jaguares and four UNI Basket players scored in double figures. Jaguares maintains first place with 16-3 record. UNI Basket lost eighteenth consecutive game. No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Real Esteli (10-9) crushed 8th ranked Indigenas (3-16) in Matagalpa 145-100 on Sunday. Real Esteli outrebounded Indigenas 59-34 including a 45-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Real Esteli looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Puerto Rican Ismael Cruz (190-2000, college: Indian Hills) nailed 61 points (!!!), 7 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and the former international Jared Ruiz (188-1992, agency: BMS Sport Agency) accounted for 30 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. American guard Chris Moten-Jackson (190-1989, college: LA Pierce JC) came up with 25 points and 7 assists and the former international guard David Toruno (-1992) added 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Indigenas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Esteli maintains fifth place with 10-9 record. Loser Indigenas keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Real Esteli will meet at home bottom-ranked UNI Basket (#9) in the next round.
