Nicaragua will host the FIBA Centrobasket Women's Championship from July 13-18 at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua, co-president Rosario Murillo announced on April 22.
Eight national teams will participate in the regional tournament, with 96 athletes representing the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Bahamas, Guyana, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and host nation Nicaragua. Sports Minister Daniel Sequeira confirmed the country's selection as host of the event.
The tournament marks a historic milestone for Nicaraguan basketball — it will be the first time the Central American nation competes in a regional women's basketball championship of this magnitude. The event is also seen as an opportunity to strengthen women's basketball development in Nicaragua and position the country as a venue for international sporting events.
