AKIL MITCHELL
We bring you last week's top performances from Panamanians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Akil Mitchell
Akil Mitchell
#1. This week's number one is an international forward Akil Mitchell (206-92, college: Virginia, currently plays in France). He could not help one of league's weakest teams Boulazac Basket (5-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Mitchell's good performance Boulazac Basket was badly defeated 77-61 on the road by the higher-ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (#9). He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds. Mitchell also added 2 blocks. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Mitchell averages: 9.8ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.6apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 57.0%(45-79), 3FGP: 18.2% and FT: 37.5%. He is a naturalized American. Mitchell is currently a member of the Panamanian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Panama.

Josimar Ayarza
Josimar Ayarza
#2. Second place goes to an international center Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Chile). Ayarza led Los Leones to a victory against the sixth-ranked Osorno Basquetbol (4-8) 93-87 in the Chilean Liga Nacional on Saturday night. He scored 15 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 4 blocks in 36 minutes. Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue (7-5) is placed second in Conferencia Centro. Ayarza has relatively good stats this year: 14.6ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 52.1%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 75.9% in 13 games he played so far. Ex-Aguilas de Rio Abajo Panama City player is in the roster of the Panamanian senior national team.

Javier Carter
Javier Carter
#3. The Panamanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Javier Carter (203-91, college: S.Alabama, currently plays in Israel). He led Maccabi K/M to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Hapoel Kfar Saba (1-4) 88-83 in the Israeli National League (second division) in Tuesday night's game. Carter was MVP of the game. He scored 27 points (!!!) and grabbed 9 rebounds (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin (2-2) is placed seventh in the National League. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Carter's first year with the team. Carter has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.2ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.6apg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 50.9% and FT: 66.7%. Carter is a naturalized American. He is also a member of the Panamanian senior national team. Carter used to play for Caballos de Cocle Aguadulce in Panamanian league.

Pablo Rivas
Pablo Rivas
#4. Forward Pablo Rivas (198-94, college: N.C.Central, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Vic in their game against Girona Basquet (5-5) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Rivas recorded only 4 points. The 12th-placed Vic (2-8) was defeated 79-68 in Girona by the higher-ranked Basquet (#6) in the East group. It's Rivas' first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 12.5ppg and 4.3rpg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Rivas used to play for the Panamanian national team back in 2016.

The list of other players, who all have Panamanian passport but never been selected to any of Panamanian national teams:

#1. Doron Lamb (193-G-91, college: Kentucky, currently plays in Greece) could not help Lavrio (3-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Lavrio lost 78-87 on the road to the leading Peristeri GS. Lamb was the top scorer with 20 points in 32 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Lamb has relatively good stats this year: 13.4ppg, 1.7rpg and 1.4apg in seven games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Lamb has never played in Panama.

#2. Experienced Colin Castleton (208-PF-0, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of Michigan in a victory against the Univ.of Tennessee - Chattanooga crushing them 83-55 in the NCAA last Friday. He scored only one point and grabbed 5 rebounds in 4 minutes on the court. The University of Michigan has conference record this season. It's Castleton's first year with the team. This year Castleton's overall stats are: 0.6ppg and 2.2rpg in five games. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Castleton has never played in Panama.
