LPB U21 Round 8: Univ.West lose to Panteras- August 15, 2021

Caballos - Toros 72-75 A very close game took place in Aguadulce (derby !!!) between Toros and Caballos. Seventh ranked Toros (3-6) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Caballos (5-4). Toros managed to escape with a 3-point win 75-72 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballos. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Guillermo Navarro (170-3) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and point guard Daniel Machore (170-6) who added 20 points and 6 assists during the contest. Jose Montenegro (191-98) responded with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Edward Lopez (190-1) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Toros moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Panteras. Loser Caballos keep the third position with four games lost. Toros will meet higher ranked Atletico (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Caballos will play against the league's leader Univ.West and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Dragones dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Panteras' 26. Justin Quintero (193-98) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Center Jesus Lombardo (201-0) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Dragones players scored in double figures. Isaac Machore replied with 24 points and forward Justin Diaz (187-2) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panteras. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dragones have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 4-5 record. Panteras lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Toros. Dragones will play against league's second-placed Correcaminos in Colon in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Worth to mention a great performance of Roberto Armstrong (182-0) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jorhiel Zapata (196-2) who added 13 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Oscar Zephyrine (190-0) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and forward Bryan Anderson (185-1) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Correcaminos used an opportunity after Univ.West lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Atletico lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. Correcaminos will meet at home Dragones (#4) in the next round. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Justin Quintero (193-98) responded with 27 points and 8 rebounds and center Jesus Lombardo (201-0) scored 8 points and 13 rebounds. Dragones' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Panteras. The best player for the winners was Isaac Machore who scored 22 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. Forward Justin Diaz (187-2) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Gonzalo Ortiz Jr (182-2) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and Arturo Molina (182-3) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Univ.West's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Toros. Univ.West at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Correcaminos.
