Toros - Correcaminos 59-66 Rather expected game in David where 5th ranked Toros (5-7) were defeated by second ranked Correcaminos (8-3) 66-59 on Tuesday. Correcaminos dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 22. Roberto Armstrong (182-0) fired 23 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Forward Aaron Gedeon (203-99, college: ACU) chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Guillermo Navarro (181-3) produced 26 points and guard Edward Binns (181-0) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Correcaminos used an opportunity after Univ.West lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser Toros dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. Univ.West's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Armando Andrade (196-0) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks and forward Bryan Anderson (185-1) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Univ.West maintains first position with 8-3 record, which they share with Correcaminos. Both fifth ranked Toros and 7th ranked Panteras had identical 4-7 record. This time Toros used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Panama City 79-72 on Thursday night. Toros made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game, while Panteras only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Panteras 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Forward Gilberto de Gracia (194-0) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Guillermo Navarro (181-3) chipped in 21 points and 6 assists. Jose Montenegro (191-98) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Amilcar Sanchez chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Caballos' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Jesus Lombardo (201-0) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and guard Manuel Barnes (187-98) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caballos maintains third position with 7-5 record behind leader Univ.West. Dragones lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Atletico. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Dragones (4-7) 94-89. Dragones forced 21 Univ.West turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Univ.West's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dragones made 10 blocks. Center Jesus Lombardo (201-0) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Manuel Barnes (187-98) chipped in 26 points during the contest. At the losing side point guard Gonzalo Ortiz Jr (182-2) responded with 30 points and 4 steals (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Randal Aguilar (-1) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Dragones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Atletico. Univ.West at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Correcaminos. Visiting Caballos were defeated by Panteras in a tough game in Panama City 71-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballos. Panteras forced 26 Caballos turnovers. Isaac Machore notched 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 8 steals to lead the effort and forward Justin Diaz (187-2) supported him with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by Amilcar Sanchez did not help to save the game for Caballos. David Castano added 12 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Panteras maintains seventh position with 4-8 record. Caballos at the other side keep the third place with five games lost.
