LPB Round 1: Atletico takes a leadership position

The Regular Season in LPB just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Atletico defeated Panteras in Panama City 78-73. Atletico made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Panteras turnovers. Jonathan King (193-90, college: ACU) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Power forward Daniel King (203-87, college: Texas Southern) chipped in 14 points and 15 rebounds. Luis Dinolis (185-93, college: Broward CC) produced 18 points and 7 assists for lost side. Panteras' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras will play next round against Caballos trying to get back on the winning streak. Atletico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Caballos in Aguadulce. Hosts were defeated by Correcaminos 85-67. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: TAMUCC) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 6 rebounds. Roberto Armstrong contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Bryan Waithe (188-94, college: Lindenwood) answered with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Caballos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Correcaminos will play against Dragones in Panama City in the next round. Caballos will play at home against Panteras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Israel Munoz stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 23 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Oscar Zephyrine responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.



Caballos - Correcaminos 67-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Caballos in Aguadulce. Hosts were defeated by Correcaminos 85-67. Correcaminos players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: TAMUCC) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 6 rebounds. Roberto Armstrong (182-0) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Bryan Waithe (188-94, college: Lindenwood) answered with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American Adalberto Rojas (195-86) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Caballos. Four Caballos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Correcaminos will play against Dragones in Panama City in the next round. Caballos will play at home against Panteras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Universitarios - Toros 99-63

The game in Panama City supposed to be also quite interesting. Toros played at the court of Halcones. Halcones smashed Toros 99-63 on Saturday. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 36. They outrebounded Toros 71-22 including a 34-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Halcones looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international Israel Munoz (196-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 23 rebounds for the winners and Andres Vergara chipped in 22 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Halcones players scored in double figures. At the losing side Oscar Zephyrine (190-0) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and guard Manuel Barnes (187-98) scored 18 points.
