Olimpia Hold Off FPC to End a Nine-Year Title Wait-Jun 28, 2026
Olimpia are queens of Paraguay once again. The "Queens" edged FPC Fem 57-53 in a tense, low-scoring contest at the Polideportivo Fuerzas Armadas to clinch the Liga Nacional de Basquetbol Femenino Apertura 2026 the club's first women's national championship in nine years.
It was a grind from start to finish. Olimpia took the first quarter 16-12 and stretched the lead behind a 19-17 second period to lead 35-29 at the break. FPC clawed back into it with a tighter second half, but never quite caught the champions, who held firm down the stretch to win by four and spark an unforgettable celebration.
Dara Villasboa (179-F-2000) led Olimpia with 20 points and five rebounds, and Dalma Itati) was superb with a near double-double of 19 points and nine rebounds, hitting four three-pointers and playing all 40 minutes. Constanza Lopez (172-G-2006) and Julia Fernandez (185-C-2004) controlled the glass with seven and eight rebounds respectively as Olimpia, despite shooting just 33 percent from the field, did enough on the boards and at the line. For FPC Fem, Agustina Marin) top-scored with 15 points (4-of-10 from three) and nine rebounds, Natalia Quevedo (170-F-1998) added eight points and eight rebounds, and Maria Pereira (160-G-2001) posted eight rebounds and seven assists, but the runners-up fell agonizingly short.
