CERRO becomes champion after 50 years!!! - Aug 29, 2012

After a super low start during the regular season Cerro ended up consolidating a great chemistry group.
The team had to get over so many adversities during the season that most people including this reporter gave very low chances to this team.
The great candidate was of course Libertad. The team led by Cristhian Viveros lost its first game only in the quoadrangular round. The acquisition of Jamal Levy was surprising
considering his great level at Lanus in Argentina and also for being teammate with Bruno Zanotti (199-F-82, college: Merrimack) at that same team.
However, Cerro ended 3rd at the SEMI FINAL round, having to had to play extra games the best of 3 with San Jos. Unbelievably , Cerro shutted down the main weapon of San Jos; their 3 pointers.
Juan Pablo Feliu had a great lecture of what San Jos was doing to finally reach th final SERIES to the best of 5 against libertad.

Libertad , bad coached by Viveros in offense, never could obtain an offensive line, his players were so inconsistent except fo Zanotti and Perez. They rarely got Levy involved in the game which at large gave Cerro tremendous advantage due to the profound game of Fabio , Penny, Ozuna and Paniagua. Only Edison Ortiz (197-F/C-82) had a consistent game from the 3 point line, but obviously shooting from long range could never be enough at this level.

Libertad played and lost with this players: Daniel Perez (190-G/F-84) (18), Carlos Luis Vallejos (183-G-92), Bruno Zanotti (15), Jamal Levy (12) y Edison Ortiz (13),Alexis Bentez, Carlos Riveros (8) . Diego Bareiro (4).
Cerro played and won after 50 years with: Gustavo Paniagua (12), Richard Ozuna (17), Elias Sosa (194-F/C-80), Jose Fabio (6) , James Penny (198-F-76, college: TCU) (30) Nelson Peralta, Luis Ljubetich, Jorge Sequera (5) , Marcos Rabino (5).

Players that deserved following mentions:
Finals MVP - Richard Ozuna
Import Player of the Year: James Penny
Domestic Player of the Year: Richard Ozuna
Defensive Player of the Year: Jamaal Levy
