Adolfo Lopez gets MVP of the Week award for Paraguayan Metropolitan League- September 12, 2019
The 30-year old forward had a double-double of 32 points and ten rebounds, while his team beat Libertad (#2, 6-2) 94-86. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Olimpia to jump to the first place in the Paraguayan Metropolitan League. Olimpia have a solid 7-1 record. Lopez has many years of experience at Olimpia, through which he has constantly improved. Lopez has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (7th best: 15.8ppg), rebounds (3rd best: 7.5rpg) and averages solid 65.1% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 36-year old Cameroonian center Gaston Essengue (203-C-83) of Sol de America. Essengue impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 16 rebounds. Of course he led Sol de America to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Ciudad Nueva (#6, 1-7) 75-55. Sol de America's 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-5 record. Essengue is a newcomer at Sol de America and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. The third best performed player last round was Venezuelan Darwin Jesus Rivera of Ciudad Nueva (#6). Rivera scored 21 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). Despite Rivera's great performance Ciudad Nueva lost 55-75 to slightly higher-ranked Sol de America (#4, 3-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Ciudad Nueva can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 1-7 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Rivera he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Rivera has individually a great season in Paraguay. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.8ppg (3rd best) and rebounds with 8.0rpg (2nd best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Luis Ljubetich (181-PG-87) of Olimpia - 15 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists 5. Jorge Martinez (F-98) of Libertad - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists 6. Jose Fabio (200-F/C-77) of Sol de America - 15 points and 9 rebounds 7. Alejandro Peralta (195-F-91) of San Jose - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Gabriel Peralta (201-F-95) of Libertad - 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Sebastian Galarza (185-PF-01) of Campo Alto - 14 points 10. Alcides Fernandez (206-C-83) of Campo Alto - 16 points and 2 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
