The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Colonias at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were rolled over by Felix Perez 82-31. Felix Perez dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Colonias' 16. Felix Perez forced 36 Colonias turnovers and outrebounded them 44-25 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Felix Perez looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Colonias' players. The best player for the winners was the former international center Ana Britez (174-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international guard Ximena Ibarra (172-2001) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Lucia Lopez produced 7 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Asuncion: Olimpia and Sol de Amer.. Sol de Amer. was smashed at home by 39 points 45-84 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Gabriela Bernal (-2007) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Antonella Luraghi contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Paz Godoy replied with 15 points for Sol de Amer.Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olimpia's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Asuncion to the arena Felix Perez.
The game in was also quite interesting. Ciudad Nueva played at the court of Deportivo SJ. Deportivo SJ did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 72-55 on Friday. Micaela Sosa scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Clara Van Benthem responded with 5 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Deportivo SJ will meet at home Colonias in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ciudad Nueva will play against Sol de Amer. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
