Russell number one in Paraguay LNB for round 1

American Forward Dwayne Russell (203-F-1998) had an amazing evening in the last round for Colonias Gold, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1 (Second Stage).
The 26-year old player had a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Olimpia K. (#2, 10-3) 83-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Colonias maintains the 3rd position in Paraguayan LNB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Colonias will need more victories to improve their 9-4 record. Russell turned to be Colonias' top player in his first season with the team. Former Saint Thomas University star has very solid stats this year. Russell is league's best scorer averaging so far 18.8ppg. Russell is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 8.1rpg) and averages impressive 56.1% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young international Ricardo Sarubbi (1998) of Felix Perez Cardozo Asuncion. Sarubbi had a very good evening with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Bad luck as Felix Perez lost that game 91-103 to San Jose (12-1). The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Sarubbi is a newcomer at Felix Perez and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was international forward Ramon Sanchez (194-F-1991) of league's top team Deportivo San Jose Asuncion. Sanchez showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the last round. He was a key player of San Jose, leading his team to a 103-91 win against #4 ranked Felix Perez in a game of the week. Many experts and fans count San Jose as a contender for championship title. Another victory and another confirmation that they may be right. Just look at their record: 12 victories and only one lost game. They are currently at the very top of the standings. Sanchez has a very solid season. In 12 games in Paraguay he scored 11.4ppg. He also has 6.0rpg and a FGP of 53.8%.
