LNB Round 5 (Regular Season): Colonias beat Campo Alto in a derby game

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LNB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Asuncion: Colonias (#2) and Campo Alto (#3). Campo Alto was crushed at home by 22 points 56-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Campo Alto. Colonias dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Campo Alto's 28. The best player for the winners was Stanley Scott who scored 18 points and 5 assists. The former international guard Nicolas Tischler (190-2000) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Brazilian center Pedro Leopoldino (206-1998) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Colonias maintains second place with 6-1 record having just three point less than leader Olimpia K. Newly promoted Campo Alto keeps the third position with three games lost. Colonias are looking forward to face Luqueno (#5) at home in the next round. Campo Alto will have a break next round.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Asuncion: San Jose (#1) and Ciudad N. (#4). San Jose (5-0) crushed visiting Ciudad N. (1-4) by 21 points 80-59. The former international forward Gabriel Peralta (203-1995) orchestrated the victory by scoring 9 points and 11 rebounds. Fernando Dose contributed with 10 points and 6 assists for the winners. Thiago Martinez answered with 19 points for Ciudad N.Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated San Jose have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Ciudad N. at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. San Jose will play against Guairena (#5) in the next round. Ciudad N.'s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Asuncion Felix Perez.

Jeremiah Wood stepped up and scored 9 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Oscar Toro responded with 10 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Olimpia K.. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Newly promoted Luqueno dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Olimpia K. will meet San Alfonso (#4) in the next round. Luqueno will play against the league's second-placed Colonias in Asuncion and hope to secure a win.

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Guairena (0-5) was crushed at home by second ranked Amambay (4-1) 91-47 on Monday. Amambay forced 27 Guairena turnovers. Brazilian guard Osmar Ventura (190-2004) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and naturalized Brazilian Edegar Alvarenga chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Amambay players scored in double figures. Luis Davalos responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Jonatan Cisneros scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Amambay. Newly promoted Amambay maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader Olimpia K. Guairena lost their fifth game in a row. Guairena at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. Amambay will meet Felix Perez (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Guairena will play against the league's leader San Jose in Asuncion and hopes to get finally their first victory.
