Piratas de Quebradillas (BSN) landed experienced 35-year old Central African-American ex-international 205cm power forward James Mays (college: Clemson). Mays played most recently at Al-Ahli in Bahrain Premier League, but left the team in Mar.'21. In only one Bahrain game he had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal previous season.
In 2008 Colorado 14ers voted him as second overall pick in D-League draft.
He attended Clemson University and it will be his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Mays has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2013. He was a member of Central African Senior National Team between 2011 and 2013.
Mays is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to nine different countries on three different continents (Asia, Latin America and of course North America). Mays has played previously professionally in China (Heroes, Eagles, Guizhou and Shaanxi), Dominican Republic, Italy, Philippines, Turkey, NBA G League (Sioux Falls Skyforce and Mine Celtics), South Korea (LG Sakers and SK Knights), Puerto Rico (Capitanes) and D-League (Springfield A.).
Among many awards his team made it to the Korean KBL Semifinals in 2019. He was also selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Korean KBL Center of the Year in 2019.
Mays' game is described as: Showed an improved ability to find open looks for teammates; one of the quickest post players in the conference and maybe in the entire countryhas the ability to create crowd enthusiasm by turning in exciting playshe's also a very good defender, sees well the court and passes the ball well.
